January 2018 Meeting Minutes

Beekeeping Minutes: January 2018

 

A. Club meeting was called to order at 7:00pm at the Advia Credit Union.

B. Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

C. 4 new guests/members introduced themselves: Kelly F., Bob & Jean T., and Rosemary R. Bill

passed out new member applications. 42 members were in attendance.

D. December 2017 meeting minutes were approved.

E. Monthly Financial Report-Scott Kosteretz

a. Balance is $6,012.50

F. Business

a. Members were reminded that with the start of the new year membership fees of $10.00

are now due for the year.

b. Bill inquired about once again starting educational panels and break-out sessions. Topics

of interest: queen-rearing, when to order bees, locally over-wintering nucs, and hive

inspections.

c. Members have concerns and questions regarding the buying of local northern queens or

southern queens. Pros and cons were given by a few members.

G. Educational Time

a. Peter Underwood attended the American Bee Federation Convention & Trade show.

High lights he shared: new ways to hive monitor, pesticide and virus research, climate change

and how it is affecting the bees and upcoming varroa mite treatments were just a few of the

talks he attended. Many knowledgeable speakers including Dave Hakenburg and Dave Mendes

lectured. At the trade show he saw many new up and coming tools such as, new polystyrene

hives, new extractors, and smokers, just to name a few.

H. Meeting adjourned at 8:45pm.
